THE NEW MANDATORY V16 WARNING BEACONS
Important information to keep in mind before driving your Hiper Rent a Car rental vehicle.
The V16 warning beacon will be mandatory in Spain for all vehicles from 2026 onwards.
Do Hiper Rent a Car vehicles have a warning beacon inside?
Yes. Hiper Rent a Car vehicles are already equipped with it. We explain where to find it and how to use it.V16 beacons are mandatory and replace traditional warning triangles.
What are they and when will they be mandatory?
From 1 January 2026, traditional warning triangles will be discontinued. Instead, the Spanish Traffic Authority (DGT) will require the use of approved and geolocated V16 warning beacons. These lights allow drivers to signal a breakdown without leaving the vehicle, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.
How are they used and where can I find them?
The beacon is placed directly on the roof of the car and emits a 360° visible light signal, as well as a geolocated signal to DGT 3.0, allowing other drivers to be informed in real time via traffic panels. In all Hiper Rent a Car vehicles, the V16 beacon is already included and stored in the glove compartment.
Please always check that the vehicle has a beacon in the glove compartment and ensure it is returned in perfect condition to the same location to avoid penalties or charges in case of loss or damage. If you have any questions, please ask our office staff.
HOW TO USE THE V16 BEACON IN CASE OF BREAKDOWN OR ACCIDENT:
1.Stop the vehicle safely
Pull over to a safe place, preferably off the roadway, and turn on the hazard warning lights.
2.Activate the beacon from inside the vehicle
Press the power button to activate the light. We provide the beacons with the batteries already installed. If the batteries are not installed, open the cover and insert AA batteries following the diagram inside.
3.Place it on the roof without leaving the car
Lower the window and place the beacon on the roof using your arm. The magnetic base will attach automatically. Do not exit the vehicle to avoid the risk of being struck.
4.Check that the light is flashing
The beacon must emit a flashing yellow light, visible in 360° and up to 1 km away. If it is flashing correctly, your vehicle is properly signaled.
5.The beacon does the rest
Thanks to its geolocation system, the beacon sends your location to the DGT 3.0 platform so that other drivers and emergency services are aware of the incident.
6.Contact Hiper Rent a Car roadside assistance
Call the phone number indicated in your folder/contract and wait inside the vehicle, as long as it is safe to do so. Our team will assist you as soon as possible.
